Week One in the Netherlands

We are finally getting our sleep on track, and students are steeping in learning both inside and outside the classroom.  This first week we visited a inside a local windmill, de Valk.  Ann has been blending cultural knowledge and Dutch educational system during class.  Students went to their first Dutch school:  Leo Kanner is a special school for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  It was a lovely visit that ended with our students chatting at length with the Dutch students.

We also traveled north to Zuiderzee Musuem in Enkhuizen.  Students explored what life was like many years ago in this living Dutch historic village.  After Zuiderzee, we hopped off train to Amsterdam for a quick walking tour of Red Light District and traditional pannekoeken!

More to come this week:  two more Dutch school visits.  Students are working on a theme to write a paper on regarding Dutch values and education.
