Perspectives in Learning Receives Quality Matters Certification
The online version of Landmark College’s signature Perspectives in Learning course has earned the Quality Matters (QM) Certification Mark following a rigorous review process.
The QM Certification Mark is the internationally recognized symbol of online and blended course design quality and represents Landmark College’s ongoing commitment to creating learning environments that provide learners with a clear pathway to success. The course is now listed on the QM directory of certified courses.
Perspectives in Learning is part of the Core Education curriculum that distinguishes Landmark College (LC) as the college for students who learn differently (LD). The course encourages students to research and understand their LD—whether that’s dyslexia, ADHD, autism, or executive function challenges, for example—and then learn how to leverage their learning strengths and advocate for supports they need to succeed.
When LC began offering online dual enrollment courses for high school and gap-year students several years ago, Perspectives in Learning was one of the first courses adapted for online instruction. It is now also part of Landmark’s online College START first year of college experience.
Denise Jaffe, director of online course development and innovation at LC, says receiving the QM certification on the first attempt is the result of the innovative work and dedication to continuous improvement by instructional designers and faculty involved with the Perspectives in Learning course, most notably Michelle Deal.
“The Quality Matters Official Review provided the opportunity to reflect on our flagship course, Perspectives in Learning, and examine it from the learner perspective,” says Jaffe. “From accessibility to learner engagement to assessments, the review used internationally recognized standards and best practices to examine critical course components related to our learners’ online experience and, ultimately, their success.”
The QM Official Review provided independent validation of the learner-focused course design found in Perspectives in Learning. Reviews are conducted by QM-Certified Reviewers and use the Quality Matters Rubric and associated Standards, which are based on research and best practices. A course earns the QM Certification Mark once it meets QM Rubric Standards at the 85% threshold or better and meets all Essential Standards.
