Athletics and Recreation

At the start of the spring semester, our men’s and women’s basketball teams will be permitted to resume on-campus practices including no contact skills and drills, limited contact plays, and modified intrasquad scrimmages. Our out-of-season sports teams (soccer, cross country, baseball, and softball) will also be permitted to practice as resources allow, although most out-of-season teams will not resume practices until warmer weather returns to Vermont, typically in late March. We do not anticipate playing other schools at this time and have no foreseeable prediction about when that might occur. Students are also not permitted to self-organize team sports or group play on their own at this time.

We are continuing to host a variety of programs for students that minimize contact including winter hikes, socially distant fitness classes, and recreational sports where social distancing can be maintained, including winter specific activities such as broom ball. In addition to organized programs, we have set up an outdoor recreation space on our quad for students to enjoy individually on their own including the Page Family Skating Rink for ice skating and individual hockey skills and snowmobile groomed loops on the quad for XC skiing. We have also expanded our fleet of winter season rental equipment to include micro-spikes in addition to snow shoes and snow tubes. Students may borrow equipment at no cost.

The Click Family Sports Center remains open for student, faculty, and staff use. Strict distancing, cleaning, and masking requirements are in place. Several supervised programs are offered indoors throughout the week, and students may use the gym for their own individual recreational use as long as all safety precautions are met.
